Outside Lands RV Rental and Camping Guide 2026

Heading to Outside Lands in San Francisco? An RV gives you a comfortable place to sleep, cook, recharge, and continue exploring California after the festival.

Outside Lands takes place at Golden Gate Park from 7 to 9 August 2026. There is no camping or overnight RV parking at the festival, so travellers need to reserve a legal campground outside the park and use public transport, an official shuttle, or rideshare services each day.

Compare available RVs and campervans near San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and surrounding California pickup locations through Event Campers.

Outside Lands 2026 Event Overview

Outside Lands is a three-day music, food, art, and culture festival held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The 2026 event runs from Friday 7 August to Sunday 9 August and features major international artists across several stages.

Unlike camping festivals such as Coachella or Bonnaroo, Outside Lands does not provide on-site camping. Sleeping overnight in Golden Gate Park or inside a vehicle near the festival is prohibited.

RV travellers should stay at an approved RV park or campground outside central San Francisco. The RV can remain safely at the campsite while guests travel to the festival by shuttle, Muni, BART connection, or rideshare.

A compact campervan or Class B RV is usually the most practical option for the Bay Area. Larger Class C motorhomes can also work well for families and groups, provided the selected campground accepts the full vehicle length.

Outside Lands Location

Outside Lands is held in Golden Gate Park on the western side of San Francisco. The festival uses several areas of the park, with performances, food experiences, art installations, and visitor facilities spread across the event grounds.

There is no general event parking, and visitors should not attempt to drive an RV to the festival. Parking restrictions are strictly enforced in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Leave your RV at its booked campground and travel to Golden Gate Park using the official festival shuttle, Muni, a BART and Muni connection, or a rideshare service. Allow extra time at the end of each night, as transport becomes crowded when the headline performances finish.

Outside Lands RV Rental and Camping Guide 2026

Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco from 7 to 9 August 2026.

The festival brings three days of music, food, drinks, art and Bay Area culture. Hiring an RV gives you a private place to sleep, cook and relax during your trip.

However, you cannot camp at Outside Lands or park an RV overnight at Golden Gate Park.

The best plan is to book an RV near San Francisco, reserve a legal RV park outside the festival area and travel to Golden Gate Park by shuttle, public transport or rideshare.

Use the search tool above to compare available RVs and campervans for your Outside Lands dates.

Can you take an RV to Outside Lands?

Yes. You can hire an RV for your Outside Lands trip, but you cannot drive it into the festival or sleep in it near Golden Gate Park.

Outside Lands is a city festival, not a camping festival.

Your RV should stay at a legal campground or RV park during the festival. Each day, you can travel from the campground to Golden Gate Park by shuttle, Muni, BART connection or rideshare.

This setup works well if you also want to explore California before or after the festival.

Why hire an RV for Outside Lands?

A private place to stay

San Francisco hotels can be expensive during large events.

An RV gives you your own sleeping area, kitchen and storage space. After spending a full day walking around the festival, it can be much more comfortable than returning to a small hotel room.

Your own kitchen

Outside Lands is famous for its food, but eating every meal at the festival can become expensive.

With an RV, you can prepare breakfast, store cold drinks and make simple meals before or after the event.

More freedom for a California road trip

An RV allows you to turn Outside Lands into a longer holiday.

After the festival, you could travel to:

  • Half Moon Bay
  • Monterey
  • Muir Woods
  • Point Reyes
  • Yosemite National Park
  • California’s northern coast

Your accommodation travels with you, so you do not need to move between several hotels.

A good option for groups

A Class C motorhome may suit a family or group of friends better than several hotel rooms.

When comparing prices, include:

  • RV rental cost
  • Campsite fees
  • Fuel
  • Mileage charges
  • Insurance
  • Transport to the festival
  • Cleaning or equipment fees

A smaller campervan may cost less overall because it uses less fuel and fits into more campsites.

You avoid driving into festival traffic

Golden Gate Park is not a practical place to drive or park a large motorhome during Outside Lands.

Keeping your RV at the campground and using public transport removes the stress of city traffic and parking.

Where can you camp near Outside Lands?

RV parks close to central San Francisco are limited. Campsites can fill quickly during summer and festival weekends.

Always confirm availability, vehicle limits, check-in times and facilities directly with the campground before booking.

San Francisco RV Resort in Pacifica

San Francisco RV Resort is on the Pacific coast in Pacifica, south of San Francisco.

It offers serviced RV sites, with electricity and water available. Some site types may also include sewer connections.

The resort can be a practical option for travellers who want campground facilities and a coastal location.

Do not plan to drive your RV to the festival each morning. Leave it at the resort and compare public transport, rideshare and shuttle options.

Best for: Travellers wanting a serviced coastal RV park

Possible facilities: Electricity, water, selected sewer connections, showers, laundry and a swimming pool

Check before booking: Vehicle length, site type and transport options

Marin RV Park in Greenbrae

Marin RV Park is north of San Francisco in Marin County.

It may be a good choice for travellers planning to visit Muir Woods, Point Reyes or Northern California after the festival.

The park offers RV facilities and access to nearby public transport. However, you should carefully check the journey back from San Francisco after the festival finishes.

Best for: Travellers continuing north after Outside Lands

Possible facilities: Water, electricity, laundry, Wi-Fi and a swimming pool

Check before booking: Late-night transport and permitted RV size

Francis Beach Campground at Half Moon Bay State Beach

Francis Beach Campground offers a more traditional coastal camping experience.

Some sites have electricity, but individual campsites do not normally have water or sewer connections. Many sites can accommodate an RV or trailer up to 40 feet.

Half Moon Bay is farther from Golden Gate Park, so it is better for travellers who value the coastal location more than a short festival journey.

Rental RV delivery and collection may not be allowed at the campground. Confirm the rules before booking.

Best for: Coastal camping and longer California road trips

Site types: Electric and non-electric sites

Maximum RV or trailer length: Commonly up to 40 feet, depending on the site

Check before booking: Current length limits, delivery rules and availability

Which RV is best for Outside Lands?

San Francisco has steep streets, busy roads and limited parking. A smaller vehicle is usually easier to manage.

Choose the smallest RV that still has enough legal seats and beds for your group.

Compact campervan

A compact campervan is suitable for one or two people.

It is easier to drive, uses less fuel and fits into more campsites. Some compact campervans do not have an internal toilet or shower, so check the facilities before booking.

Class B campervan

A Class B campervan is often the best choice for an Outside Lands trip.

It may include a bed, small kitchen, toilet and shower while remaining much easier to drive than a large motorhome.

These vehicles are popular during summer, so book early.

Class C motorhome

A Class C motorhome provides more beds, storage and living space.

It can work well for families and groups, but you must make sure your campground accepts the full vehicle length.

Before booking, check whether the price includes:

  • Mileage
  • Bedding
  • Kitchen equipment
  • Generator use
  • Cleaning
  • Insurance

Class A motorhome

A Class A motorhome offers the most space, but it is usually not the easiest option for San Francisco.

Only choose a large Class A if your group needs the space, your driver is experienced and your campsite can accommodate it.

Where should you collect your RV?

Your best pickup location will depend on your flights, campsite and road-trip plans.

San Francisco Bay Area

A Bay Area pickup gives you the shortest journey to your campground.

Summer availability may be limited, so search beyond central San Francisco.

Oakland and the East Bay

Oakland can be convenient for travellers arriving through Oakland International Airport.

It may also provide more vehicle choices. However, staying in the East Bay can make the return journey after the festival longer.

Check the final public transport services before booking.

San Jose

San Jose may have more RV availability when San Francisco vehicles are sold out.

It is also a useful starting point for a road trip towards Monterey or Southern California.

Sacramento

Sacramento is farther from San Francisco but can be a useful backup pickup city.

It is a practical choice for travellers planning to visit Yosemite, Lake Tahoe or other areas in Northern California.

Check the RV before leaving the depot

Before driving away, inspect the vehicle and test:

  • Lights
  • Fridge
  • Water system
  • Power connections
  • Heating
  • Air conditioning
  • Toilet
  • Shower
  • Cooking equipment
  • Doors and windows

Take photos of the inside and outside of the RV before leaving.

Ask the rental company to explain how to connect electricity, fill water and empty waste tanks.

Ticket availability can change quickly. Always check the official Outside Lands ticket page before booking your RV or flights.

Event Campers does not sell festival admission.

Your festival ticket, campground and RV rental are separate bookings.

The safest booking order is:

  1. Confirm your Outside Lands ticket.
  2. Reserve a legal campground.
  3. Book an RV that fits the campground site.
  4. Arrange transport between the campground and Golden Gate Park.

Do not book a large motorhome before checking the campsite length limit.

How do you get from your RV park to Outside Lands?

Leave your RV at the campground.

Outside Lands does not provide general festival parking. Public transport, the official shuttle and rideshare are usually the most practical choices.

Official Outside Lands shuttle

The official prepaid shuttle runs between Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and the south entrance of Outside Lands.

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is near Civic Center transport connections, including BART and Muni.

Shuttles are scheduled to begin at 11 am each festival day. The last shuttle from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to the festival leaves at 8 pm. Return shuttles continue until one hour after the music ends.

The shuttle pass is separate from your festival ticket.

Muni

Muni buses and light rail services connect central San Francisco with areas near Golden Gate Park.

Extra services may operate during the festival. Check current routes and service times before each festival day.

Expect large crowds after the final performances.

BART

BART does not travel directly to Golden Gate Park.

You can use BART to reach central San Francisco from the airport or East Bay, then transfer to Muni or the official festival shuttle.

Check the final service time before travelling.

Rideshare

Rideshare may work well for groups.

Pickup points close to Golden Gate Park can become very busy after the festival. Walking away from the main exit may make it easier to meet your driver.

Check whether your campground allows late-night entry.

Cycling

Outside Lands normally provides bicycle parking outside the festival.

Bicycles are not allowed inside the event area. Cycling is only a practical option if your accommodation is close enough and everyone is comfortable riding after dark.
