Where You Camp Inside Black Rock City
You park your RV inside the city’s semicircular street grid. There are no assigned pitches or reservations for individual vehicles. You either join a placed camp or find an open spot.
Camping options
- Placed theme camps: Register in advance, get a designated block. More structure, shared resources, community. Best for first-timers who want support.
- Open camping: First-come, first-served. More independence but more planning. Avoid areas marked with blue flags (reserved for placed camps).
- Quieter zones: Available if you want earlier nights and less noise.
Vehicle rules
- A separate Vehicle Pass is required for every vehicle entering Black Rock City, including RVs.
- Once parked, your RV stays parked. Driving inside the city is banned except for approved mutant vehicles and service vehicles (5 mph speed limit).
- Bring bicycles or e-bikes for getting around. The city covers over 10 km².
- No hookups, no dump station on the playa. You must manage all water and waste within your RV or arrange paid pump-out services during the event.

Planning Your RV Trip to Burning Man

- Mon Sep 7 to Tue Sep 8: Exodus and return drive to your rental depot. Stop in Reno for initial RV dust-out and decompression. Return RV knowing playa dust cleaning charges will be billed on top of the event surcharge.
A 12 to 14 day rental gives you buffer for the drive, provisioning, shakedown, the event itself and a relaxed return. Note that Road Bear RV’s Burning Man event surcharge window ends September 2, 2027, so pickup after that date at LAS, LAL or SFL avoids the extra charge.
